Procedures for Initial Parent Visit
1. Initial Consultation: TAC will discuss with the parent and student which areas/subjects the student needs help with or would like to work on.
2. Explanation of Programs: Based on the information given, TAC will explain the program(s) best suited for the student, i.e. Math class (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry), Reading, Writing, Grammar, Test Preparation (SAT, CMT, CAPT, SSAT), Homework Help, 1-on-1 instruction.
3. Diagnostic Testing: To get a better idea of the student's abilities, TAC will administer a diagnostic test. If the student wishes to improve his/her Language Arts skills, TAC will administer the SRI (Student Reading Inventory) test. This test measures a child's reading comprehension level and matches students with books that are enjoyable yet challenging. If a student is interested in Math help, TAC will administer the Math Diagnostic Test (grades 1-8). TAC will also administer a complete SAT Test to those students wishing to improve their SAT scores. The SAT test will identify which of the three area(s) (Critical Reading, Writing or Math) the student needs to improve on.
4. Program Recommendation: Based on the SRI/SAT/Diagnostic test results and by talking further to the parent and student, TAC will determine student's level and exact course(s) student should take.
5. Enrollment: A parent wishing to enroll his/her student will complete TAC's Registration Form.
6. Payment: After registration, parent will submit payment. Payment should be made for a minimum of 8 sessions. He/she can pay with cash, check (payable to Total Academic Center), or credit card (we accept VISA or MasterCard).
7. Homework Assignment: If the student is enrolled for Reading Quest, TAC will select a book within his/her range determined by the SRI test and will be given the accompanying homework packet. If the student is signed-up for Perfect Writing, TAC will give the student a writing prompt appropriate for his/her grade level. Homework should be completed within the week and brought to the first class.
