Reading Quest

What is Reading Quest?

Reading Quest is a program exclusive to Total Academic Center that consists of award-winning literature, guided reading homework, and well-organized lessons in a small group setting (2-3 students per class). In addition, this class utilizes reading comprehension tests to aid in student growth. Reading Quest helps students build analytical reading and writing skills, skills that play an important role in all areas of schoolwork. This program is for students in grades 3 - 12.

In every class, students are assigned a book to read and are given a homework packet, or book report, to be completed within the week. This packet contains questions on the story's setting, characters, and plot, and provides space for students to write a book summary. In doing so, students will learn how to analyze a story "in-depth." Elementary grade students are also asked to illustrate their report. (Middle and high school students have this option as well.)

In class, instructors check students' homework and guide an analytical discussion on the book. Students will be encouraged to engage their teacher and classmates in conversation, presenting ideas and opinions, with the aim of improving students’ ability to perceive and understand patterns and themes within their reading and advancing their potential to succeed in all areas of their schoolwork. At the end of class, a reading quiz is administered to test the student's level of comprehension.
