Vocabulary

Total Academic Center offers vocabulary courses in our regular program for students in grades K-12.  The vocabulary classes for the elementary students focus on enhancing students' conversational and writing vocabulary.  The higher level vocabulary classes are aimed at expanding students' working academic vocabulary for middle and high school.  These higher level classes will emphasize terms that are commonly used in higher-level reading.

Classes will teach definitions of words, highlighting word usage and vocabulary in context. Students will practice their vocabulary through skill exercises and passage reading, as well as read and write sentences using terms learned in class. Students will also learn steps to help figure out definitions of unknown terms. Homework exercise will help students remember lessons from previous classes. An advanced vocabulary is key to accelerating students in their English development
